Amazon.com Product Description
The HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One is perfect for archivists who want to preserve all their old photos. The C8180 can print, scan, and copy and has built-in LightScribe technology that will print professional-looking labels on CDs and DVDs. The printer has a built-in 3.5-inch touchscreen you can use to easily print photos without a PC: Simply put your memory card into the memory card slot (supports CompactFlash, xD, Secure Digital (SD)/Multimedia Card (MMC), SDHC, HDMMC, MMCPlus, Memory Stick (MS), MS Pro, MS Duo, MS Pro Duo), preview it on the display, and print. Enhance your photos and remove red eye with HP Red-eye Removal, HP Scratch and Dust Removal, and HP Adaptive Lighting technologies.

The HP Photosmart C8180 produces lab-quality, fade-resistant photo prints by using a six-ink color system for accurate color reproduction. Photos will always print on the correct side of the paper with the right quality settings because of HP Auto Sense technology. And coupled with HP Advanced Photo Paper, the C8180 is sure to produce photos that are smudge and smear-resistant right from the printer. Print speed is outstanding as well, at up to 34 ppm black and 33 ppm color. For those looking to save paper, an included duplexer lets you print on both sides of the paper. With built-in Ethernet, everyone on your home network can share the printer.

The scanner uses a Contact Image Scanner (CIS) for scans at up to 9600 dpi optical resolution with a scan size of up to 8.5 by 11.7 inches. The copier supports pages up to this size as well and you can make up to 50 copies in one pass. Color copies are supported and there are settings for enlarging and reducing from 50 to 400 percent. HP Photosmart C8180 supports Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP Home and Professional, and Windows Vista as well as Mac OS X 10.3.9 and 10.4.x. It is backed by a 1-year warranty.

5 out of 5 stars sO EASY TO USE   November 16, 2008
THE 8180 DOES EVERYTHING CLAIMED, IS EASY TO USE FOR A SENIOR CITIZEN
LIKE ME WHO HAS ONLY BEEN INTO COMPUTERS AND ACCESSORIES FOR LESS THAN
A YEAR. THE QUALITY OF THE PRINT IS AS GOOD AS ANY I'VE SEEN BOTH FOR
TEXT AND PHOTOS. IT'S SO MUCH MORE HANDY TO PRINT MY PICTURES RIGHT HERE
AT HOME RATHER THAN WAIT IN LINE AT WALGREENS. EXCELLENT PURCHASE TO MY
MIND.

4 out of 5 stars So far, So Good   November 2, 2008
I've had this for a week (bought for $300). I haven't really put it through its paces but here's what I think so far:

Scanner - I like the slide and 35mm function. (Scanned some of my dad's old army slides that he hasn't seen in 50 years.)

Printer - seems to do a nice job

Wireless - works, although it's going to be a pain to have to carry it out to my computer every time I want to use the LightScribe function.

Software - A little buggy like others have said. It even made MS Word crash (the crash diagnosis reported this and said HP is "working on a solution")

Photos - look good

My Opinion:

I think you have to decide what fuctions you want on a printer. I was willing to give up auto-feed, 2-sided documents, and fax for the photographic elements. Overall, it seems pretty cool though, and I hope it works out for me.

One problem: When I unboxed the product, the printer would not recognize the ink cartidges, and I had to spend an hour online with HP Support to correct the problem.

5 out of 5 stars HP All-In-1 Printer C8180   November 2, 2008
This is a great home Printer. Makes photo copies of look just like from Wal-Mart or any other professionals. It prints very fast. Luv the screen setup & the easy setup of changing out the ink. It cleans itself when it does a lot of prints. If you own more than one computer and laptop in different rooms or elsewhere, the networking is great. I have not had problems printing from different locations, but know with the wireless setup, you dont get to use all your features, so I know have my hook to my system so I can use all the cool features. This was a good investment for me being I love to scrap book and print many pictues.
Now, just to let you know I own the Epson R200 as well and it printed the pictures the same with the same paper quality type, setting. When you use the correct paper the job, your color printer can product great quality pictures. U read about these jam up, but if you use thin cheap paper, it curls up and causes a jam. So check your paper weight. We dont hard earned money to buy a good printer to run out and buy cheap paper.
I am very happy that I didn't take the advice of reading all the bad news, but maybe they can make a better printer or just look for the bad in things. All of us can not afford to put a $2000.00 in our home office, and they get jam ups and the ink is not cheap for the color ink.

4 out of 5 stars Good printer, so far   September 1, 2008

Have had this printer a few weeks now. It prints photos very well, and surprisingly fast. The copy feature did very well. I copied a pink invoice in black and white. The pink came out in light enough grey so the writing in pencil was clear, even without adjusting anything.

My problem with it may not be the printer's fault. My paintings and graphics don't print the color that appears on the screen. I wish I knew how to solve that problem, if there is a solution.

Have not yet tried to scan negatives or slides. When I do I will write another review.
