Product Description
Sigma provides the new ultra-wide angle zoom lens from 15mm and this lens is the first of its kind in the world. It can be useful for images of landscapes, large buildings, group photographs or even more. The perspective that changes with the angle-of-view gives picture an extraordinary feeling.Delicate compositions can be adjusted by lens zooming and this is helpful for close-up photography. Provides deep depth of field with its short focal length for amazing photographic expressions. This ultra-wide zoom lens covers a large wide-angle range from 15 mm to 30 mm. With a minimum focusing distance of 30 cm(11.8 inches) throughout the entire zoom range, it is an ideal lens for Digital SLR Cameras. It incorporates hybrid aspherical lens in the front lens group to minimize distortion and astigmatism, and molded glass aspherical lens in the rear lens group to minimize spherical aberration. Minimization of the distortion is a most important issue for zoom lens, but Sigma has succeeded, to provide image quality with minimal distortion by employing aspherical lenses. This lens incorporates an internal focusing system, which eliminates front lens rotation. Since focusing do not change its overall length, this lens is easy to hold and use. Also it is allowing the use of a Petal-type Hood. The lens also incorporates Dual-Focus (DF) mechanism. It is easy to hold the lens, since the focusing ring does not rotate during auto-focus, yet it provides adequate focusing torque of the focusing ring during manual focusing of the lens.

3 out of 5 stars Good lens but broke   December 17, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

It's a good lens, not fast but good image and ver y little distortion, 10mm is amazing !

But after 4 months of little use the autofocus stoped working, which is not a major problem because manual focusing is OK un such a wide angle ...

5 out of 5 stars A Value Wide Angle with True Pro Quality   December 12, 2008
1 out of 2 found this review helpful

This without a sliver of doubt is the best lens I've ever purchased. Now keep in mind I would consider myslef a well-funded hobbyist. I am not a professional photographer. This lens is my second most expensive lens I've purchased next to my Tamaron 28-200 aspherical. But the quality this lens gives put it in a class well above it's price point.

This lens collects the best qulity of light I have ever seen. It is a fast lens and generally allows a 1-2 f-stop improvement in exposure than most. One of the most stunning things about this lens is it's crisp focus. From corner to corner and accross the center - dead on focus. I have noticed nothing in the way of uneven distortion at the widest settings. Also, I have not seen any vignetting, though I'm sure the sun shade would show up in the 10-14mm range.

This lens also feels good. Like good metal wrapped in hard rubber. It could be wrapped in horse lips for all I know, but it's got the right balance and heft I need. It seems to have a magneto focus drive and there is no noise in focusing and no grinding of gears if you manually adjust.

The only draw back to the lens is you cannot effectively use the integrated nikon flash (the pop up). The diameter of the lens is considerable and you will see the arc of the lens cast a shaddow on the lower center of most shots.

If you're looking to buy a wide angle for your Nikon DXXX, buy this lens. You'll find it's one of the best in the bag.

4 out of 5 stars Good and bad   November 17, 2008
I actually dont like landscapes at 10mm. The distortion at this length makes the center of the frame so distant that it seems too far away. That being said, some people like this style. I still prefer 14-18mm on a DX body, which brings other lenses into the equation.

You can, however, get some neat angles on up close subjects at 10mm which is fun. Also, the image quality of this Sigma is pretty good as well (a bit soft outside of center focus though).

5 out of 5 stars great lens half for the price   November 15, 2008
Was always NIKON only, until I needed a wide angle zoom lens for my D40. Thats when I found SIGMA. The 10-20mm is great lens at half the price of the NIKON 12-24mm. Tried both lenses before buying the Sigma. It is clear, sharp, and well built. The HSM works great on my D40 & D60. For extreme wide angle and landscape its great -no problems.

5 out of 5 stars Good motion, solid construction, vignetting at 10mm, list of hyperfocal distances.   November 1, 2008

I've been using this lens for a few months without any major complaints. It can evidence vignetting at 10mm, which becomes more pronounced when you add a 77mm polarizing filter. The physical motion is superb and it's a solid lens. It's missing obvious hyperfocal markings, but you can use the focal length and distance marks to get accurate hyperfocus anyways. I hope this helps others who use this lens.

Hyperfocal lens settings (partial list):

10mm: f/5 @ 1m
10mm: f/11 @ 1.5ft

12mm: f/8 @ 3ft
12mm: f/16 @ 1.5ft

14mm: f/10 @ 1m
14mm: f/25 @ 0.4m

17mm: f/16 @ 3ft

20mm: f/22 @ 3ft
